Microsoft plans to launch AI powered Copilot on Windows 10
Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring its AI-powered Copilot to Windows 10. This would be a major expansion for Copilot as it is currently available only on Windows 11. The Windows 10 Copilot may also feature plugins that will work across both operating systems. This development will significantly increase the userbase of Copilot as Windows 10 still operates on one billion monthly active devices. Meanwhile, Windows 11, which was launched almost two years back, has only 400 million active devices. Windows 10’s massive userbase may also encourage developers to develop more plugins for Copilot. There are also rumours that Microsoft is reportedly working on a web-based version of Copilot that will be compatible with all operating systems.

Samsung launches its own Generative AI model called ‘Samsung Gauss’
Samsung has launched its own generative AI model, Samsung Gauss. It is currently being used internally by Samsung employees. However, it will be available to the general public pretty soon. The model is expected to be used in a variety of Samsung products, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Gauss consists of three models: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image. While Samsung Gauss Language is a large language model that can understand human language and answer questions, Samsung Gauss Code is a code assistant that can help developers write code easily. Samsung Gauss Image, on other hand, is an image generation and editing tool that can be used to create and edit images.

WhatsApp can now hide your location during calls
WhatsApp has just rolled out a new feature that allows users to hide their location or IP address during calls. This is an optional feature that can be enabled in the app’s settings. Once enabled, the users’ location will not be visible to other participants on a call, even if they have previously enabled location sharing. WhatsApp said that once this optional feature is enabled the call will automatically shift to company’s own server that will help in concealing the IP address metadata. However, WhatsApp has assured that it won’t have any access to calls as all calls will be end-to-end encrypted. This new feature is a welcome addition for privacy-conscious users, as it gives them more control over who can see their location information

Amazon is developing its own LLM called ‘Olympus’
According to sources, e-commerce giant Amazon is developing a new large language model (LLM) codenamed “Olympus” as it tries to catch up in the AI race. Like any other LLMs, Olympus is expected to generate high quality text, write different kinds of creative content and offer human like responses to various prompts. Amazon is likely to use Olympus in its online retail store, Alexa voice assistant on devices such as the Echo, and its Amazon Web Services unit. However, there is no information exactly when Amazon plans to launch this AI model. Separately, OpenAI is also working on a new LLM called GPT 5 while Microsoft is equally busy in developing number of LLMs, including one called Turing NLG.

Signal is testing Usernames to enhance Privacy of its users
Encrypted messaging service and WhatsApp rival Signal is currently beta testing a new feature that will allow users to communicate with each other using usernames instead of phone numbers. The Usernames will be an optional feature and users will still be able to use their phone numbers if they prefer to do so. However, usernames will surely help in enhancing the privacy of the Signal users as they don’t have to reveal their phone numbers. Currently, Signal users have to share their phone number if they wish to communicate to message other users on the app. There is still clarity when does Signal plans to launch this feature to all its users.
