Amazon launches Nova – a new family of AI model for generating text, images & vidoes
At its on-going re: invent 2024 conference, Amazon unveiled a new family of AI model called Nova. The Nova family consists of six models, with each model aiming to perform a unique task. For instance, Nova Micro is a text only model designed to perform low latency and cost-effective text processing. On other hand, Nova Lite is a multimodal model that could handle text, images and videos with proficiency, while Nova Premier is capable of handling complex reasoning tasks. The other models in the family includes Nova Pro, Nova Canvas and Nova Reel. Amazon is likely to use these AI models for its internal purposes rather than releasing it for broad public use.

Google launches AI video generator model Veo on its cloud Vertex AI platform
Google has finally launched its most advanced AI video generator model, Veo, on its cloud platform Vertex AI. The model will be currently available in private preview. Veo was first showcased at this year’s Google I/O Developer Conference. It can create high-definition videos (up to 1080p) up to six seconds long based on simple text prompts. The model supports masked editing, allowing users to make changes to specific regions within a video. Veo is considered as Google’s response to some of the AI video generating platforms that have become immensely popular, including Runway, Luma AI and Pika.

Meta plans to use nuclear power for its data centers
Meta has announced plans to utilize nuclear power to fuel its data centers in the United States, aiming to add between one and four gigawatts of nuclear energy capacity starting in the early 2030s. This initiative is part of Meta’s strategy to secure reliable, zero-carbon energy sources to support its expanding operations, particularly in light of increasing demands from artificial intelligence technologies. The company has already started accepting proposals from nuclear energy developers to work on this ambitious project. By the way, Meta isn’t the only big tech company planning to use nuclear power to fuel its AI ambition. Both Google and Microsoft have also made unambiguously clear that it has serious plans to develop nuclear reactors.

Amazon Music copycats Spotify Wrapped feature
Amazon Music has launched 2024 Delivered, its own version of Spotify Wrapped, providing users with a personalized yearly recap of their listening habits. Thanks to this feature, Amazon Music users can now “Top Songs 2024” playlist and or get an insights into their favorite podcasts with a single click. The launch of 2024 Delivered comes as other music streaming services like Apple Music and YouTube Music also unveil their yearly recap features. Previously, Amazon Music offered a more limited feature called My Year in Review, which provided only basic playlists without detailed statistics or shareable insights.
