It is game on for Apple as the tech giant is reportedly working on developing a dedicated app store for gaming apps. According to 9 to 5 Mac, this app store might club together the functionalities of App Store and Game Center in one place. It will have multiple tabs like ‘Play now’ tab, a tab meant for users’ games, friends and more. The 9 to 5 Mac further suggests that Apple is also tinkering with the idea of FaceTime and iMessages with its gaming app. However, these are only speculations and rumours. There is no surety that this dedicated gaming app store will see the day of light.

OpenAI hires its first-ever chief economist

 

OpenAI, which recently was in news for exodus of its top management executives, has made a rather unusual hiring. The company has hired its first ever chief economist by appointing Ronnie Chatterji. Chatterji is an Indo-American and currently serves as a business and public policy professor in the Duke University. With this hiring, OpenAI aims to learn about the consequences of artificial intelligence on global markets, job creation and other facets of the society. This will likely help the ChatGPT’s parent company in navigating the challenges and opportunities possessed by AI technology. Chatterji brings with him wealth of experience, having served in Obama and Biden administration.

Google Messages unveils Advanced Scam Detection Tools

Google on Tuesday announced slew of new safety features for its messaging service. This will help Google messages in ‘improved analysis of spammy texts.’ Once Google Messages suspects a scam, this new tool will immediately move the message to the spam folder or issue a prompt warning to its users. Separately, Google messages will also be rolling out ‘intelligent warnings,’ a feature that has been in pilot stage for quite some time. This feature automatically blocks messages with suspicious links. All these features have been powered by machine learning models. While protecting users against scams and spammy messages is topmost priority, these features have been designed to respect and uphold the privacy of users.

Nvidia claims Blackwell AI chips design flaw has been fixed

In what will come as a huge relief for big tech companies, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has confirmed that the company has successfully fixed a design flaw in its next-generation Blackwell AI chips. Nvidia’s CFO, Colette Kress, has also confirmed that the company has executed a design change to enhance production yields, allowing the hardware to proceed to mass production. Almost all big tech companies including Google, Microsoft and Meta have been desperately waiting to its hands on Blackwell AI chips. Blackwell has been designed to run colossal AI models at a significantly lower cost. However, despite fixing the flaw, it is highly unlikely that Nvidia will be able to ship Blackwell AI chips by end of 2024.
