Apple unveils iPhone X with edge-to-edge screen along with iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

Apple has finally unveiled their long awaited special edition iPhone. They have decided to name the device iPhone X (pronounced as iPhone 10). iPhone X comes with an OLED, bezel-less end to end display. However, there is a notch at the top to accommodate the front camera, Face ID sensors and others. Also, it has a support for wireless charging. They also announced iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, however, the main highlight of the event was the iPhone X. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus look a lot like iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus respectively, but with a glass back.

The stunningly built iPhone X comes with a glass on the front as well as the back. It is water resistant and has surgical-grade stainless steel around its sides. Keeping up with the trend of bezel-less designs, the iPhone X is offering an edge-to-edge 5.8 inch OLED display, which it calls the Super Retina Display. It supports 046×1125 resolution, with 455 PPI.

This is the first iPhone that will not feature the legendary home button because of the screen that spreads across the entire front of the device. However, a lot of home button functionalities have been replaced with gestures. For example, to wake up your iPhone, you can simply pick it up or swipe across any part of the screen. To close an app, you need to just swipe up and throw it away. To activate Siri, you can simply say “Hey Siri” or use the side button.

While Touch ID was one of the most powerful and favoured means to unlock your phone, to make way for the stunning display, Apple has introduced a depth-sensing front camera equipped with an infrared camera, flood illuminator and a dot projector that will unlock the phone by detecting user’s face. Apple is calling this feature, Face ID.

According to apple, the chances that one can trick its Face ID is 1 in 1 million. Apple has also introduced a new feature called Animoji which, by using the front cam, will lay your facial expressions on an emoji.

Its rear camera comes with a 12-megapixel sensor alongside dual-lenses at f1.8 and f2.8 apertures. Also, it comes with a dual-image OIS quad-LED TrueTone flash. It has also introduced a new feature called Portrait Lighting, which isn’t a filter but a real-time analysis of light hitting the subject, allowing users to select different lighting effects. You can now capture video in low-light mode and 4k resolution. You can also shot Slo-mo videos in 1080p at 240 FPS. The front facing camera, powered by the True Depth system, also supports the Portrait and the Portrait Lighting mode.

Both the iPhones, iPhone 8 and iPhone X are powered by an A11 Bionic processor which has two performance cores, four high-efficiency cores, and the first Apple-designed GPU. Apple comes with a wireless charging facility supported by Qi, thanks to its all glass back.

The battery life on the latest generation of iPhones in around 2 hours more than that of iPhone 7. It has also introduced a new device called Air Power. It is a mat-like device that can charge your iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch, all at the same time.

The iPhone X starts at $999 for the 64GB model. You can also buy the 256 GB variant. On the other hand, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are going to start at $699 and $799 respectively.
