Elon Musk on Sunday took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that his much-anticipated cage fight with Meta’s owner Mark Zuckerberg will be live streamed on his platform. Although the exact date of this fight is yet to be announced, the venue of the cage fight has already been confirmed. The fight will take place at the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada, United States. However, this will be a purely exhibition match and the proceeds from the fight will go to charity for veterans. This much-anticipated cage fight has garnered lot of hype on the social media platform. However, many have called this as nothing but a cheap publicity stunt.

After rebranding Twitter to ‘X,’ Musk has now announced that ‘X’ would be providing financial assistance to users who have been fired or otherwise discriminated against by their employers because of their posts or likes on the platform. The tech billionaire further added that there would be “no limits” to the amount of financial assistance that X would provide and the platform may even sue employers on behalf of users who have been unfairly treated. Musk’s announcement has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised him for his commitment to free speech, while others have questioned whether he is simply trying to stir up another controversy.

Record-breaking Surge in global ransomware attack with US as Prime target

As per the latest report by Malwarebytes, U.S has emerged as the primary target for global ransomware attacks. The study revealed that 1,900 ransomware attacks were reported between July 2022 and June 2023 with nearly 43% attack taking place in the United States alone, marking a staggering 75 percent increase compared to last year.  Germany, France and the U.K also experienced surge in the ransomware incident but at much lower rate than the United States. A ransomware attack is a type of cyberattack in which malicious software is used to encrypt files or lock a victim’s computer system, making the data inaccessible. The attackers then demand a ransom for unlocking the system.

Iraq blocks Telegram app, citing threat to national security

Iraq’s telecoms ministry has blocked the Telegram messaging app, citing concerns about national security and personal data violations. The ministry accused that the Telegram app was leaking the data of the official state institutions and the personal data of citizens. Furthermore, it accused that the app was being used by certain groups to coordinate protests and anti-group activities in the country. In the past, Telegram app has been banned in several countries like Russia, China, Iran and Brazil. These countries had also accused the app of posing threat to the national security and spying on behalf of the U.S. government.

Threads will soon have a web version and advanced search feature

Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced that both a web version and advanced search are coming to Threads “in the next few weeks. As of now, the only way to access Threads is through its mobile app and hence a web version will offer much needed convenience to the desktop users. Besides, an advanced feature will be an equally welcome feature as it will allow users to easily search for specific posts or words. Threads is Meta’s newly launched app that allows you to share short snippets of text with your close friends and pals. It directly competes with Elon Musk’s Twitter.
