Facebook TV might debut in August

Facebook is really involved in the sphere of video content and is soon going to launch its TV. The videos will feature short length contents. Unlike Netflix, Facebook TV isn’t going to challenge other mainstream streaming service providers anytime soon.

Come August and Facebook will go live with its first TV episodes. From an advertising giant to TV production. Facebook is experimenting with new forms of content. The initial programs will contain short video length programs. The high-end video content will start coming in a bit later.

The program feed will be visible to the user in the default news feed. There is a specific section to access the video content. The programs will contain original material and user generated content as well.

Facebook has been very serious with its original content. Moreover, it made some acquisitions recently to protect video creators as well. This implies that Facebook is serious about this business and wants to make it big. However, Facebook won’t compete with the likes of Netflix or HBO at this point in time. Furthermore, Facebook wants to create videos which are of higher quality than Youtube.

Facebook is paying for the high-quality content. This is not the case with Netflix or Youtube Red. Facebook wants to create a niche for itself. Until now it was not doing great with video content. Many original content creators complained about its inability to control piracy. Facebook needs to improve on this aspect. Moreover, it needs to show that it is concerned about its reputation and will take right steps to control theft. With better confidence, more and more original content creators will post more videos on Facebook and hopefully it will be able to break the ice.

The longest content will have a running time of 20 to 30 minutes. However, most videos will run from 5 to 10 minutes. Facebook would own the longer version of the videos. Facebook won’t own the shorter videos. Most of all, all the videos on Facebook TV will have advertisements.

Facebook has not yet publically commented on the launch of its TV program date.
