Google launches Gemini, its most powerful LLM model that will power Bard & other Google services
Google on Wednesday finally launched its highly anticipated AI model Gemini, putting to rest rumours that have been swirling for weeks. Starting from today, Gemini will be integrated with Bard and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones and pretty soon this integration will be carried out across other Google services including Search, Chrome and more. In terms of capabilities and functions, Gemini will directly compete with OpenAI’s latest LLM model GPT-4. Essentially Gemini will be available in three models. Gemini Ultra, the second one is Gemini Pro, which can be compared with OpenAI’s 3.5 and the last one is Gemini Nano, which has been designed to run efficiently on mobile phones.

Meta launches a standalone dedicated website for its AI powered image generator
Now using Meta’s AI image generator is easy than ever before. This is thanks to the fact that Meta has just launched a standalone dedicated website for its AI powered image generator ‘Imagine.’ Previously, you could use ‘imagine’ only through individual or group chats across Meta’s social media platforms. However, currently this website will be available only in the US and you will need Meta account to use this tool. Once you’re logged in, imagine works like any other image generator. You just need to type the prompt and just click on the ‘generate’ button. Imagine has been powered by Meta’s EMU model.

Meta plans to make encrypting messages on Facebook and Instagram a default feature
Pretty soon you would no longer have to manually switch on encrypting feature while messaging someone on Facebook and Instagram. That’s because Meta is planning to make encrypting messages a default feature on both these social media platforms. Meta plans to launch this feature first on Facebook, later it plans to introduce it on Instagram after few weeks. Until now, only Meta’s instant messaging platform WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption feature. By bringing the same feature on Facebook and Instagram, the company is trying to safeguard its users against hackers and cyber criminals. However, this move may not be welcomed by certain governments, especially the UK government, which had already urged Meta not to roll out encryption on its social media platforms.

EU countries have reached a deal to regulate ChatGPT and other AI systems
EU countries and lawmakers have finally reached a landmark deal on set of rules and regulations for ChatGPT and other AI systems. Although the draft needs to be approved by the EU parliament, it lays groundwork for the legal framework regulating the AI companies in the European Union territory. One of the bones of contention is the use of AI in biometric surveillance. Although EU lawmakers have been hesitant in approving the use of AI in biometric surveillance, the draft has given a green signal to it. Other details of the deal have yet not been made public. TOP companies like OpenAI reportedly lobbied hard among the EU lawmakers to resisting from framing strict and unfriendly AI rules.
