TikTok requests US Supreme Court to postpone the upcoming ban
TikTok has formally requested the U.S. Supreme Court to temporarily block a federal law that necessities the app’s parent company, ByteDance, to part away its ownership by January 19, 2025, or face an imminent ban in the country. TikTok has applied for this emergency appeal in the supreme court after the DC Circuit Court of Appeals rejected its previous appeal to halt the implementation of the law. The company claims that enforcing the law would cause “immediate irreparable harm” to both itself and its users, who number over 170 million in the U.S. However, many US experts argue that with Donald Trump set to take the control of White House in January next year, TikTok is unlikely to get any reprieve.
