Elon Musk’s brain technology startup, Neuralink, has claimed that its second brain implant patient – identified as Alex – is showing great progress. Since his surgery, Alex, who had a broken spinal code before the operation, is now reportedly able to easily operate CAD software and even played counterstrike game. What has been the most promising thing though is that Alex has so far not encountered any thread retraction problem, which was encountered in the first patient. However, we might have to wait for some more days or even weeks to know whether this operation has been successful or not. For all those who are not aware, Neuralink aims to help paralyzed patient in operating digital devices by controlling their thoughts.

Microsoft to relaunch ‘Recall AI’ feature in October
Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it will be relaunching its much controversial data scrapping AI feature ‘Recall AI’ for developers for testing in early October. However, the tech giant refused to give any timeline about when it plans to launch the feature for public or general use. When first launched in June, the feature sparked public outcry over privacy concerns, since it is designed screenshot of all the activities performed on-screen so that it becomes easier for users to retrieve the information later. What added further fuel to the controversy was that Recall AI was going to be a default feature in Windows 11. The controversy eventually compelled Microsoft to delay the launch of Recall AI.

Instagram users can now add songs to their profile
Starting from today, Instagram will allow users to add 30-second-long song to their profile. The inserted song will pop up in the user’s bio area. However, it won’t have an auto-play feature and the song will play only when someone hits the play button. Instagram is debuting this feature by collaborating with pop star Sabrina Carpenter, whose song ‘Espresso’ has been a massive hit this summer. Carpenter will reportedly release the teaser of her yet to be released song ‘taste’ on her Instagram profile page. In future, singers and artists could very well leverage this feature for releasing their upcoming songs and albums, opening a new monetization opportunity for Instagram.

Google’s DeepMind workers are Displeased with its military contracts
According to Time, Google’s AI R&D arm DeepMind’s nearly 200 employees have a signed a letter addressed to the management, expressing their displeasure over company’s military and defense contract with Israeli government. The letter, which was signed in May, states that “any involvement with military and weapon manufacturing impact our position as leaders in ethical and responsible and goes against our mission statement and stated AI principles.” Although these employees represent a very minuscule portion of DeepMind’s overall employees, it still shows the underlying stress over company’s military contracts.
