Google’s Gemini finally enters the Customizable AI race with ‘Gems’

Google’s Gemini for the first time will get a customizable AI feature, which will be rolled to Gemini Advanced, and Business and Enterprise users in more than 150 countries. With this feature, Gemini users can make their own customized chatbots, like a coding assistant or a customer service chatbot, scheduling appointment and offering creative writing suggestions.  This will certainly help in democratizing generative AI but this isn’t a revolutionary feature, especially since other top competitors like OpenAI and Microsoft Copilot already offer this feature. In another big news, Google’s most advanced AI image generator Imagen 3 will be now be available to Gemini users.

Google Meet can now summarize key points of your Video Call

Google Meet is getting a new AI feature that automatically summarizes all the important points during the video call. This is much better than getting a mere word-by-word transcription, helping in getting the gist and all the key points of the meeting without having to put any effort or time. Google Meet will leverage Gemini AI for recording all the important discussion points and will be publishing it on Google Docs that will duly appear in the meeting owner’s Google Drive. However, currently only Google Workspace Enterprise and Education customers will be getting access to this feature. Its use is also currently limited to English language and most probably won’t be available for mobile users, which implies that only computer and laptop users can use this feature.

X is reportedly working on a ‘video conferencing’ feature

If everything goes according to the plan then in near future you might able to do a video conference on X. It has come to light that X is currently testing Zoom and Google Meet like feature, tentatively known as ‘X conference.’ X’s employee Chris Park has shared the screenshot of this feature on his X handle. Although we’ve very limited information but what we do no know is that X conference will have very basic features, like ability to pin speakers, support for spatial audio and built-in captions. This isn’t the first time that ‘X’ will be trying to venture into corporate features, having launched job search tool last year. The feature though hasn’t quite picked up with the X users.

Midjourney is building a hardware team

Midjourney, one of the top competitors in AI image generation space, is now building its own hardware team. The company announced this on its official ‘X’ handle and called on people to apply for joining its team. However, it hasn’t shared any other details about what exactly this hardware team will do. Midjourney probably served a hint about getting into hardware when few months back it hired former Apple engineer Ahmad Abbas, who played a critical role in creating Apple Vision Pro Headset. Midjourney’s CEO David Holz also comes with a strong hardware background, having founded Leap Motion, which developed motion tracking peripherals.
