Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger has been Ousted by the Board

Pat Gelsinger has been compelled to resign from his CEO position by Intel’s board. Intel confirmed this new on Monday morning. During his roughly three-year tenure, Gelsinger attempted to revive the struggling chipmaker, which over the years has lost significant market share to its arch-rival Nvidia. Intel’s inability to capitalize the generative AI boom decisively ensured the meteoric rise of Nvidia, while Intel was reduced to the pale shadow of its past glory. Although Gelsinger did help Intel in securing lucrative government contracts, it wasn’t enough to assuage the concerns of the investors and board. Intel has named CFO David Zinsner and Products CEO MJ Holthaus as the incumbent cO-CEOs. Meanwhile, the company will be starting the search for a new CEO.

OpenAI could turn to advertising to boost its revenue

According to unconfirmed media reports, OpenAI is seriously considering the possibility of introducing advertising as a new revenue stream. This rumour has caught on especially after OpenAI recently hired ad specialists from major tech companies. This includes Kevin Well, who played a key role in Instagram’s advertising team and Shivakumar Venkataraman, known for playing an important role in Google’s search advertising team. OpenAI has been in a considerable pressure from the investors to push its revenue, especially after it recently raised nearly $6Bn from several investors. Meta’s Thread all set to enhance its search capabilities to take on X & BlueSky

Thread’s basic search functionality is all set to get a major update, with Meta now introducing a advanced search feature in its microblogging platform. This will bring Threads on par with X and BlueSky, which already offer the advanced search feature. Threads users can now move beyond the traditional keyword only search method. They can now refine searches to find posts from specific accounts or within designated time frames. However, especially compared to ‘X’ Thread’s advanced search still lacks several key features. This includes filtering by language and ability to exclude certain keywords.

Bezos backs Tenstorrent’s AI chip ambitions

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has invested $700 million in Tenstorrent, an AI chip startup aiming to compete with Nvidia. This funding round, which values Tenstorrent at approximately $2.6 billion, was led by South Korea’s AFW Partners and Samsung Securities, with participation from other notable investors including LG Electronics and Fidelity. The funds will be used to expand Tenstorrent’s engineering team, enhance its global supply chain, and develop AI training servers to showcase its technology.
