If you see “No Service” in the status bar of your iPhone, open Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, then turn it off after a few seconds. If you see a message that says ” Cellular Update Failed,” your carrier might be temporarily unavailable. Try again later.
If your iPhone won’t make or receive calls, but can text, there might be an issue with the cellular network that your iPhone is trying to connect to. If you’re in an area with low or patchy coverage, try moving to a different location. You can also try resetting the network settings on your iPhone:
- Open Settings and tap “General.”
- Tap “Reset.”
- Tap “Reset Network Settings.”
- Enter your passcode if prompted, then tap “Reset Network Settings” to confirm.
- If you’re still having trouble, contact your carrier for more help.

If you can’t find Control Center, go to Settings > Control Center and make sure that Access Within Apps is turned on.
Your iPhone is turned off or needs to be charged.
Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo appear on your screen, then release the button. If you can’t see the Apple logo or if the logo isn’t appearing after you press and hold both buttons for about 10 seconds, connect your device to a power outlet using a Lightning cable or earlier iPhone model dock connector cable and try again after it begins charging (you might see a lightning bolt next to the battery icon).

How to make sure your iPhone is making or receiving calls
