Coding bootcamp startup Masai School announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Bengaluru-based design institute Design Shift Academy. The deal marks Masai School’s first-ever acquisition and company’s maiden foray in the designing space. However, Masai School hasn’t shed light on the financial details of the acquisition. The possibility of acquihire cannot also be ruled out.
Till date, Masai School’s bootcamp was solely focused on imparting coding knowledge to young students. But following the latest acquisition, the startup will include UI/UX designing in its curriculum.
Design Shift Academy currently operates its institutes in Bengaluru and Pune.
Commenting on the maiden acquisition, Prateek Shukla, Co-founder and CEO, Masai School, said, “The acquisition of Design Shift Academy is a first for Masai School, and is a significant milestone in our growth journey. Having made our mark as a coding centric platform, we now aim to sharpen our focus towards becoming a career-focused platform. We are happy to collaborate with Design Shift, who will bring to Masai School the expertise and knowledge of the UI/UX design space, and in turn help create holistic learning programs.”
Masai School was recently in news for closing its closing its Series A round at $5Mn. The startup counts Omidyar Network, Unitus Ventures, India Quotient and India Angel List among other high profile investors.
Coding space has been briming with lot of actions since last year especially following Whitehat Jr’s acquisition by Byju’s. Although Whitehat Jr isn’t a bootcamp coding startup, its success has certainly brought unprecedented focus on coding education.
