Meta opts for another mass layoff, cuts 10,000 jobs

Meta on Tuesday declared a second round of layoff on Tuesday, cutting nearly 10,000 jobs in the fresh round of layoffs. Meta has now become the first big tech company to announce a second round of layoffs. The Mark Zuckerberg led company had eliminated nearly same number of people in November last year. The two back-to-back job cuts is a part of Zuckerberg’s strategy to control company’s ballooning cost after having poured billions of dollars in the ambitious Metaverse project. According to layoff tracking website layoffs, the American tech industry has eliminated more than 2,80,000 employees since the inception 2022 with 40% job gone in the current year.

Reddit faces major global outage

If you were facing problem in accessing Reddit on late Tuesday evening then you weren’t alone. That’s because Reddit experienced a major global outage that reportedly lasted for almost 90 minutes. The users were reportedly facing problems in accessing Reddit on website as well as on the app. According to Downdetector, it received nearly 60,000 complain on Tuesday. The latest development is that Reddit has fixed the issue but there is no yet official confirmation.

U.K starts investigation against TikTok

In a fresh setback for the popular Chinese short video app TikTok, the U.K government has launched an investigation against the app for breaching data privacy of the users. The U. K’s Security Minister Tom Tugendhat has confirmed about the investigation. However, he refused to comment whether the U.K. government is planning a similar ban that was recently imposed by the EU and the U.S. government, outcasting TikTok from the devices used by government employees. TikTok in an desperate attempt to overcome regulatory pressure is now reportedly planning to split from its parent company ByteDance.

Google announces new AI features for Gmail & Docs

With Microsoft presumably getting a upper hand in the AI race after integrating ChatGPT into its search engine Bing, Google has been trying very hard to match up with its competitor. Google on Tuesday announced that it is integrating AI powered chatbot into its Workspace apps including Google Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Slides. Thanks to this integration, users can now type in a topic they would like to write about and draft will be instantly generated (very similar to ChatGPT). However, Google said that initially this AI-powered writing feature will be introduced to very limited set of users in the U.S before it is ready for a full-scale launch.

OpenAI launches GPT 4, claims it is more advanced than ChatGPT

OpenAI, the parent company behind viral chatbot sensation ChatGPT, has just launched a new version of ChatGPT. It is called GPT 4, claiming that it is far more superior than its predecessor. OpenAI has said “GPT-4 is more creative and collaborative than ever before. It can generate, edit, and iterate with users on creative and technical writing tasks, such as composing songs, writing screenplays, or learning a user’s writing style.” Meanwhile, Microsoft has said that the GPT 4 has already been integrated into Bing and Edge.
