Microsoft preparing new AI model to challenge Google & OpenAI

According to a report published by The Information, Microsoft is currently working on a new, large-scale AI language model called MAI-1. MAI-1 will compete directly with Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The report further claims that this LLM model will have total 500 billion parameters and the project will be overseen by DeepMind’s former co-founder Mustafa Suleyman. Microsoft has reportedly already dedicated large server clusters with Nvidia GPUs for training the AI models. While the reports are still emerging, one thing is sure that MAI-1 will be “far larger” than Microsoft’s previous, open-source models, likely indicating a more powerful and expensive system.

Opera’s AI assistant has just got a big update for Android users

Opera’s built-in AI assistant Aria can now provide summaries of text-based webpages on your Android phones. It can summarize news articles, blog posts, and even research papers. As a result, Android users will be saving lot of time as they will be getting the key points in a concise format, typically fitting on a single screen. This feature makes Opera the first mobile browser with an AI-powered webpage summarization tool. Ukraine, which is currently engaged in a war with Russia, has unveiled an AI-powered spokesperson for their Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Named as Victoria Shi, the AI spokesperson is modelled on Ukraine’s famous singer Rosalie Nombre. However, this AI spokesperson will only be reading the statement, which will verified and written by real people. Nonetheless, it can help in saving enormous amount of time and efforts of Ukraine’s foreign ministry. Moreso, it will be available 24/7 and can communicate multiple media organizations at same time. Notably, this is first time that any country will be making use of AI powered spokesperson. If this experiment is successful then it could lay down precedence for other countries.
