CMA will especially look into whether Microsoft has stifled the competition in the AI sector by hiring most of the inflection AI’s staff. It will also look into if this move qualifies for a merger under the UK law, though technically Microsoft has not technically acquired inflection AI. It looks more of an acquihire than acquisition. The British competition watchdog is still in the initial phase of the investigation and will decide by September whether to go ahead with more in-depth probe in this matter.
