On the eve of Presidential election, Twitter restricts access to Content in Turkey
As votes are been counted in the tightly fought presidential election in Turkey, Twitter has decided to restrict access to certain content in the country. The popular microblogging platform announced the news on May 13th through a tweet that was available in English as well as Turkish language. However, Twitter did not shed much light on which content or which type of content will be restricted. This decision is likely to evoke controversy as it goes against the Elon Musk’s much controversial ‘free speech policy.’ Meanwhile, there is every possibility that Twitter might extend the content restriction for another week as Turkey is likely face another round of presidential election next Sunday.

Facebook bug that sent Automatic Friend Requests has been Fixed
Meta has said that it has resolved the Facebook bug that would send automatic friend requests whenever any users would visit any profile. Meta spokesperson has rendered an official apology for the technical glitch. The spokesperson said “we’ve fixed a bug related to a recent app update that caused some Facebook friend request to be send mistakenly. We’ve stopped this from happening and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.” However, it is still not known exactly how many people were impacted by this bug.

Netflix plans to Slash Expenses by $300 Mn in 2023
In the wake of increasing competition in the streaming space, Netflix has decided to focus extensively on cost-cutting measures. According to a report published in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the streaming giant plans to cut expense by as much as $300 Mn in the current financial year. Sources have also told WSJ that the company will be very judicious while making new hirings. As part of the cost-cutting measure, the streaming giant has also resorted to job cuts. Netflix has been taking slew of bold steps to make the company more efficient and responsive to new challenges in the streaming space. The password sharing feature and cutting subscription cost in select countries are examples of such bold steps.

Oppo to Shut Down its Chip Designing Unit
Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo, has announced that it is putting curtains down on its newly founded chip designing unit ‘Zeku.’ Oppo was compelled to make this decision in the wake of prolong uncertainties in the smartphone industry and continued U.S. restrictions on chip exports. Zeku was founded in 2019 and boosted about 200 patents in its Shanghai division. Inspired by Apple, even Oppo was planning to use its own custom design chips and reduce its over-reliance on other chip making companies like Qualcomm and Intel. However, it seems now that Oppo’s ambition on this front is unlikely to meet success.
