OpenAI launches 01 – a new AI family model that can solve complex problems

While the world was desperately waiting for OpenAI to launch ChatGPT 5, the ChatGPT maker on Thursday surprised everyone by unveiling a whole new family of AI model. The new family of AI model is called 01 and initially comes with two models like o1 preview and o1 mini. Both these models will be accessible only to ChatGPT Plus users. Although OpenAI claims that both these models can handle complex problems with immense efficiency, many useful features will be missing from the early version of the AI models. For instance, it won’t be able browse the web for information and uploading files and images. Another notable thing is that o1 preview and o1 mini are comparatively expensive. In the API, 01 preview is $15 per 1 million input tokens and $60 per million output tokens.

Bluesky now allows you to upload videos

Bluesky, the decentralized alternative to the popular microblogging platform X, will support video uploads. BlueSky users can now upload video clip up to 60 second longs on their desktop as well as mobile app. The video will autoplay by default though you can deactivate this feature from the setting menu. Users are also free to add subtitles or labels to their videos. However, currently the video uploading function comes with limitations, with the platform allowing only 25 video uploads per day. Notably, you will have to first verify your email-id before uploading videos on Bluesky

Gemini Live is now publicly available for free on Android

Google’s Gemini Live voice chat, which was available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers until now, is now available to all free users on Android. For all those who don’t know, Gemini Live allows for a natural conversation with back-and-forth exchanges. The wonderful thing is that it even allows you to interrupt responses with new information, making the conversation as human as possible. You can even select different voices for chatting with Gemini Live. According to Google 9 to 5, you can access this feature by selecting the new waveform icon in the bottom right corner of the Gemini app. Google’s Gemini directly competes with OpenAI’s voice assistant, which also has pretty much similar features.

Amazon starts testing ads in its AI assistant chatbot Rufus

Amazon’s recently launched AI powered shopping assistant, Rufus, may start showing ads pretty soon. Amazon has started ads for limited users in Rufus chatbot, which is currently available only in the US. Ads will be shown based on users search and conversational context. However, it is exactly not clear how Rufus will show ads. This move isn’t really surprising, considering that most companies try to take the conventional method of publishing ads in an attempt to make breakeven or recover their investments. Even Microsoft flirted with the idea of testing ads in its Copilot chatbot.

SpaceX’s astronauts pull off historic spacewalk

The riskiest part of the five-day Polaris Dawn mission was successfully completed on early Thursday morning, after SpaceX astronaut opened the Dargon capsule main door and stayed in the space for few minutes. At the heart of this mission was a special suit designed by SpaceX that was donned by all the four crew members. A spacewalk, sometimes referred as extravehicular activity, happens when astronaut leave safety and relatively risk-free territory of a spacecraft and launches into risk terrain of empty space. Until now spacewalk was achieved only by government sponsored space mission.
