OpenAI launches GPT-4o mini – its smaller and cheaper model till date

OpenAI on Thursday launched yet another new AI model. This new AI model is bit unique though as it is the smallest and also cheapest model launched by OpenAI till date. The company claims that GPT-4o mini will cost developers 60 percent less to build AI powered apps as compared to GPT 3.5 Turbo. But this isn’t the big news. What actually is the big news is the fact that GPT-4o mini will be replacing GPT 3.5 Turbo for free users of ChatGPT starting from today. This promises to enhance the experience of ChatGPT’s free users, more so after GPT-4o mini reportedly outperformed its predecessor on many MMLU benchmark.

Nvidia and Mistral launches new AI model ‘Mistral-NeMo’  

       

Chipmaker Nvidia and French AI startup Mistral on Thursday jointly announced the launch of a new AI model called ‘Mistral-NeMo.’ It promises to bring powerful AI capabilities directly to business desktops without the need for extensive cloud resources. It boasts 12 billion parameters and expansive 1,28,000 token context window, positioning itself as smaller a model with powerful capabilities. It can help in several applications like assisting with writing, editing, generating creative content, automating tasks, providing intelligent assistance, accelerating scientific work and much more. This AI model marks a first collaboration between Nvidia and mistral. It will be launched under Apache 2.0 license.

Meta is suspending its generative AI tools in Brazil

Meta has decided to temporarily shut down all its generative AI operations in Brazil. This decision comes after Brazil’s watchdog National Data Protection Authority (NDPA) decided to suspend with immediate effect the validity of Meta’s new privacy policy, which mandated the use of personal data of Brazilian citizens for training its generative artificial intelligence system. Meta has hinted that while its AI operations will be suspended it will continue to hold talks with NDPA to resolve the issue. This decision will come as a huge setback for Instagram and Facebook’s parent company as Brazil is one of the key markets for the company.

Amid all the leaks of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold overwhelming the internet, Google has officially confirmed the existence of Pixel 9 Pro Fold by releasing a teaser video on its X handle. The teaser video focuses primarily on the camera capabilities of both the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The tech giant is expected to officially launch the Pixel 9 series phones on August 13.
