Google’s Gemini will be available in over 40 languages in coming weeks

Gemini Live, Google’s AI chatbot that engages in human like conversation with Android users, is all set to expand to other languages. Initially, available only in English language, it will be available in over 40 languages including German, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese and French. However, currently users can only use two languages on the same device. Android users can set their preferred language(s) by going into the settings. The language expansion will certainly help in the global expansion of Gemini Live. One of the unique things about this AI chatbot is that it allows users to interrupt and change the topic in middle of the conversation, making the conversation experience as real as possible.

YouTube Shorts Time Limit Increased to Three Minutes

Google on Thursday announced that it will be adding one of the most requested features in YouTube Shorts by increasing the video limit to three minutes long. Currently, it supports only 60 seconds or one-minute-long video. However, content creators will have to wait to till October 15 for using this updated feature. Separately, YouTube Shorts will get a new feature called ‘Template’ that will allow content creators to leverage the ongoing trend and make their video appear more funky and trendy. This is very similar to TikTok’s CapCut’s templates. However, YouTube Shorts is offering templates within its own app and not third-party-app.

A co-lead working on OpenAI’s Sora has switched over to Google DeepMind

Tim Brooks, one of OpenAI’s senior employees who played a key role in creating OpenAI’s video generating platform Sora, is leaving the organization. He is switching over to Google’s AI division DeepMind, where he will be working on the AI model Genie, which aims to generate playable action-controllable virtual worlds from the synthesized images and real photos. Brooks has become the latest top employee to exit OpenAI, after its CTO Mira Murati decided to resign from the company barely a week ago. However, Brooks exit isn’t completely surprising considering that OpenAI’s Sora seems to have fizzled after the initial hype. In fact, Sora is still not publicly reportedly due to technical problems, ceding the space to other competitors like Runway and Luma AI.
