Shunwei Capital Internet Fund’s Vice President Arpit Beri has joined Singapore headquartered VC firm Jungle Ventures. He will spearhead the India focus investment fund for Jungle Ventures, just as he had done for Shunwei Capital.
Arpit Beri announced the news about his move to Jungle Ventures on his official Twitter Handle.
Some of the eminent startup personalities especially from the VC industry including Nexus Partners’ Partik Poddar and Elevation Capital’s Mukul Arora poured their wishes to Beri on Twitter.
Beri has had a long spell with the India’s startup industry, especially with the VC industry. He has been associated with India’s VC industry since 2015 when he joined Saif Partners (now known as Elevation Capital) and later moved to Shunwei Capital in 2018.
During his nearly two year stint at Shunwei Capital, the Beijing based VC firm invested in quite a few high profile startups. This includes series C & series D round in Meesho, series B round in Rapido, series A & series B round in SimSim and seed & series A round in Kuku FM.
Beri’s resignation from Shunwei Capital has come at a time when Chinese investments in India have come under scanner. However, so far there is no suggest that his resignation was triggered by questions over China’s dominant presence in India’s startup industry.
Beri’s new company Jungle Ventures has already invested in quite a few high profile Indian startups. This includes Bookmyshow, Livspace and Moglix.
Meanwhile, another prominent VC personality Alok Goel had also resigned from Elevation Capital just few days back. Goel’s resignation came at a critical time when Saif Partners raised a fresh funding corpus of nearly $400 Mn and also rebranded into a new brand identity. Techpluto was the first news portal to report about Goel’s resignation.
