After months of anticipation, South African celebrity based startup MyFanPark has finally forayed into the Indian market. MyFanPark essentially helps fans to get personalized video messages from their favorite celebrities.
MyFanPark has made quite a name for itself back in South Africa. The startup was selected amongst South Africa’s top five startup last year and also boasts strong presence across international markets including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and West Africa.
Shailendra Singh, Former MD of Percept Ltd. will oversee MyFanPark’s Indian operation. Singh is often credited for transforming Sunburn Festival into one of the biggest dance-music festivals of the world. He also happens to be a prolific producer and has produced dozens of films in Bollywood.
To get head start in the Indian market, MyFanPark has signed several celebrities hailing from celebrity driven fields like Bollywood, television and sports. According to company’s official website, it has signed popular celebrities like Parteik Babbar, Aarti Khetarpal, Ashmit Patel and Deinaaz. The list is likely to grow in the coming months as the company will look to increase its footprint across the Indian market.
MyFanPark on its official Twitter fan page has touted itself as India’s biggest celebrity shoutout platform. It claimed that it will forever change the way people gift and change the way people celebrate.
MyFanPark is seeking to replicate the success of American startup Cameo, which runs similar platform and has become highly successful startup in the U.S. Cameo last year had raised whopping $50 Mn from investors and is easily amongst the most well-funded startup in this space.
Back home in India, MyFanPark will face some real competition as quite a few startups have already in this niche space. Kalaari Capital backed Wysh is one of well-known competitors in the personalized messaging space. Earlier this year, it raised $2 Mn as part of the series A funding.
