Struggling Meta plans to put ‘AI’ in all its Flagship products

Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday at company’s internal meeting that generative AI features will be unveiled in a big way in all its leading products in the coming days. Zuckerberg reportedly even showed the preview of few generative AI features, including a text prompt that will allow users to modify their own photos before sharing them on Instagram. An AI agent that will help in enhancing chatting experience in WhatsApp as well as the Messenger. These announcements mark a shift in Meta’s strategy as it has been pretty slow in introducing generative AI features while its rivals have already jumped the ship. For instance, SnapChat has already launched its own AI Chatbot.

OpenAI’s CEO visits South Korea to seek AI opportunities

ChatGPT maker OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman has been recently crisscrossing the world to meet lawmakers and national leaders to discuss about potential AI threats and opportunities. Altman is currently halting at South Korea where he met top government officials and business leaders including South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. Altman also gave a keynote speech at the AI for Humanity conference in Seoul. OpenAI’s CEO will be visiting more countries in the coming days including India where he is expected to meet India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

WhatsApp launches Channels feature – a unique way to broadcast updates

WhatsApp has launched a new feature called “Channels” that allows users to send broadcast messages to an unlimited number of people. To create a channel, open WhatsApp and tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. Channels are a great way to share information with a large audience. For example, you could use a channel to share news updates, product announcements, or company information with your employees or customers. However, this feature is currently available in beta testing and therefore to access the feature, you’ll need to be a beta tester.

Popular Reddit app ‘Apollo’ is shutting down

Apollo for Reddit, a popular third-party Reddit app, will be shutting down on June 30, 2023. Apollo’s owner Christian Selig announced Reddit’s recent decision to charge third-party developers exorbitant fees for API access as the reason for the closure. Apollo was launched  in 2016 and instantly became one of the most popular Reddit apps available on the internet. The app was praised for its user-friendly interface, its powerful features, and its commitment to privacy. Selig said that he is exploring the possibility of open-sourcing Apollo’s code, so that other developers can continue to work on the app.

Google Cracks down on Remote Working, Updates Hybrid Policy

Google is seriously planning to crackdown on employees who are not coming to their offices as consistently as they should. Google’s HR chief, Fiona Cicconi, has sent a memo to employees announcing fresh updates in company’s hybrid policy. As part of this update, the company will be tracking office badge attendance and confronting workers who aren’t coming in when they’re supposed to. The tech giant also said that the company will start including their three day per week attendance as part of their performance review. Google’s move comes as many other tech companies are also starting to crack down on remote work.
