AR/VR FIRM LEAP MOTION RAISES $50 MILLION

The headset based hand tracking VR/AR firm has raised $50 million. The technology is primarily for the hand tracking in VR/AR. Leap Motion is backed by top ventures in Silicon Valley. It wants to master human-computer interaction. Oculus Rift is also experimenting with hand glove controllers. With this investment, the company will broaden its reach to other sectors, such as education, healthcare and industrial training simulations. The company will also open a branch in Shanghai.

NETFLIX SURPASSES 100 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS

In a letter to its investors, Netflix has announced that it has surpassed 100 million subscribers earlier than the expected date. The company made a profit of $66 million on $2.8B revenue. With 100+ million subscribers, the company has become the biggest paid streaming company.

UBER’S ASIA TROUBLE MOUNTS

Uber has halted its services in Macau as its troubles mount in the Asian region. Running into a dispute with local regulators has forced it to shut down temporarily from 22 July. Uber has gone into partnerships in the region to avoid shut down. In Taiwan, it merged its services with the local taxi operator to avoid closure of the business. A similar step was taken in Russia by merging with Yandex.Taxi. Merging with a local partner cannot be ruled out in the case of Macau as well.

Google is planning to take quantum technology out of the labs and into the cloud. Google has reportedly opened its gates to developers to build apps for the supporting services. Both IBM and Microsoft are also interested in this business model. Whoever makes the first move will have early mover advantage for sure

Amazon is reportedly interested in meal kit services. Amazon wants to go beyond the grocery business and jump into meal kits as well. It wants you to be a Chef. Amazon has also registered a slogan “We Do the Prep, You be the Chef”, which shows where the Amazon’s ambitions lie. It wants to branch out to various sub sectors of its business.

US CAN SNOOP SOCIAL NETWORK IN SECRET-LEGALLY!

The US government can snoop anyone on social media without making it public. FBI can send the order of surveillance to the Tech companies making them open up their platform for surveillance purposes. For example last year alone Apple received 1000 such orders from FBI. Same is the case for all other tech companies.
