TestFreaks,a startup that aggregates detailed information specific to consumer electronics has recently launched a localised version of its parent web service for Indian gadget freaks.
TestFreaks.co.in,the Indian counterpart of TestFreaks lists out all the required details such as product specs, user reviews, professional reviews, price range, related blog posts, forum threads, news, rumors, manufacturer’s description, manuals, videos and much more.
As of now,the categories that TestFreaks is offering information about are Cellphones,Digicams,TVs,Mp3 Player and Camcorder. The categories might seem a little shrunked up but as TestFreaks have barely started off the service, its quite obvious that they may broaden up the options soon.If one really wants to get an idea about their possibilities then refer to their international version(which is matured and widely populated).
In their own words…
“TestFreaks isn’t only about finding new products, its also an owner’s community where you can share your experiences about the products you used and help others maximize the utility of the products”
TestFreaks has been founded by three Swedish technocrats : Kristofer Arwin, Magnus Wiberg and Martin Alexanderson who previously founded the price comparison engine PriceRunner in 1999.(which got acquired). But one must not misinterpret the TestFreaks as a ‘data generator’.It doesn’t employ any experts for product review or anything of that sort.Rather,it’s an aggregator of relevant content related to the listed product. TestFreaks is aggregating product information and expert reviews from popular indian gadget sites such as Tech2,TechTree,PC World etc.
The site will certainly fascinate geeks, gamers and consumer electronic lovers.
The parent site is bringing approx 4 million users per month in 24 countries. As their indian version is newer, its still to make a remarkable impact in India.
On the weaker front, the team at TestFreaks needs to re-invent the UI(User Interface) of the site. The current design isn’t that engaging and can be done in much better way. They also need to populate their product range for better growth possibilities.
