Winzo on Friday announced that it has raised $65 Mn in a series C round led by Griffin Gaming Partners. Griffin Gaming Partners is a California based VC firm that is solely focused on investing in the gaming industry. International VC firms and existing investors Makers Fund and Courtside Ventures were among other investors in the funding round.
According to the regulatory filings, Griffin Gaming Partners has invested INR 147 Cr while Makers Fund has contributed INR 30 Cr in the Series C round. Griffin will get a seat in Winzo’s board of directors team following this round. With the Series C round, the Delhi based startup has till date raised $90 Mn.
The Delhi based firm’s Series C round has come barely six months after it secured $18 Mn funding in Series B round.
It must also be noted that Winzo has raised $9.5 Mn or 69 Cr debt funding from Courtside Ventures earlier this year. Additionally, the company was recently in news for giving profitable exit to Hike via $12mn share buyback program.
Launched in early 2018, Winzo stands out among other gaming competitors for its focus on Bharat or India’s interior region. It caters to the interior region by making games available in India’s indigenous languages. This includes languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada and Bhojpuri.
The platform claims that it has 50 million registered users and facilitates over 2.5 billion micro-transactions per month across a portfolio of 70+ games.
